In the heart of House of Tan, the Private Dining Rooms stand as a testament to innovative design and familial warmth. When I designed this space together with my talented team of interior designers, I envisioned it as the ultimate gathering spot for our family and our cherished friends, business associates, and partners.
Recognizing the need for versatility, the designers and I faced a unique challenge: accommodating large gatherings in a space where the largest round table on the market seats 16.
Our ingenious solution? Retractable partition walls that effortlessly transform the area.
When tucked away, these partitions create a grand, unified space with three distinct tables of various sizes, perfect for larger events that can seat up to 33.
For more intimate gatherings, each section can be elegantly closed off, providing a cozy and private dining experience. The result is a dynamic space that seamlessly blends practicality with style, ensuring every event at House of Tan is both memorable and beautifully tailored to its guests.
Let’s take a closer look at these spaces and how they cater to different needs.
The choice of round tables in our Private Dining Rooms was both deliberate and deeply rooted in Chinese cultural traditions.
In Chinese culture, the round table symbolizes unity and equality, fostering an atmosphere where everyone can easily engage in conversation and share the meal.
This shape encourages a sense of togetherness and harmony, aligning perfectly with our vision for these spaces as centers for connection and celebration.
Round tables also ensure that no one is seated at the ‘head’ of the table, emphasizing the collective experience over individual prominence.
By incorporating these tables, we honor the cultural heritage of the Tan Family and create an inviting environment where every guest feels valued and included.
The design of our Private Dining Rooms at House of Tan seamlessly blends modern and classic elements, creating a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere.
The high-quality engineered wood flooring, laid in a herringbone pattern and finished in a light, natural color, adds a classic, sophisticated touch that complements the room’s warm and inviting atmosphere. I particularly love how this pattern adds a timeless elegance that sets the foundation for the entire room.
The walls, featuring a combination of light wood paneling and wallpapered inlayed surfaces, echo this warmth and create a cohesive look.
We selected framed black-and-white photographs of family members in business settings worldwide, adding a personal and historical touch that enhances the sense of legacy in the dining rooms. Every time I see these photos, I’m reminded of our family’s journey and the values that brought us here.
The ceilings, designed with a grid pattern using recessed panels, add depth and interest while improving the acoustics. Multiple ceiling lights with brass fixtures and frosted glass shades are evenly distributed, providing both functional and ambient lighting that softly diffuses throughout the space. This lighting choice was crucial for us, as it ensures that every gathering is bathed in a warm, welcoming glow.
The large round tables, made of polished wood, offer ample space for dining and conversation. When choosing the dining chairs, my priority was ensuring maximum comfort for our guests. The dark blue upholstered seats with light-colored inner padding provide a cozy and inviting seating experience, perfect for long, enjoyable meals.
What I like most about this room are the large windows, which flood the space with natural light. The horizontal blinds allow us to control the light levels, maintaining the desired ambiance throughout the day. These windows create a bright, airy atmosphere that makes the room feel expansive and connected to the outdoors.
Additional elements like large potted plants introduce a touch of greenery, enhancing the room’s connection to nature and bringing a sense of tranquility.
A glass-fronted cabinet in the largest room stores glassware and dining essentials, contributing to the room’s polished and organized look. This cabinet is one of my favorite features because it combines functionality with elegance, keeping everything we need close at hand while adding to the room’s sophisticated appearance.
Another thing I wanted to point out is that each room also features a separate sitting area designed for more casual conversations, providing a relaxed space for guests to unwind and connect on a more personal level.
These sitting areas, with their comfortable seating and intimate ambiance, offer the perfect complement to the dining experience, ensuring that every moment spent in our dining rooms is both meaningful and enjoyable.
Another thing that’s special about our dining rooms are their names: Cheng, Xin, and Qin, which mean Integrity, Trustworthiness, and Dedication, respectively.
These names were chosen to reflect the core values of the Luen Thai Group, grounding our gatherings in principles that have guided our family and business for generations.
