Have you ever opened your kitchen cabinets and something falls out or maybe you can’t find what you are looking for because all the dishes are piled with no rhyme or reason?
If this happens more often than you’d like to admit, it may be time to reorganize your kitchen cabinets.
With a little planning and creative thinking, it’s easy to set up an organized kitchen.
Kitchen organization is a big deal, and it will make cooking and cleaning much more enjoyable if your dishes are filed away properly.
Here’s how to get started organizing your dish-were and kitchen cabinets!
You’ll get the best results if you go ahead and remove everything from the cabinets first. This is a great opportunity to wipe down the surface inside the cabinets as you would be amazed how sticky it can get.
Be sure to move all items to the counter where you can see everything you own.
Once you have all your dishes out on the counter, you’ll want to place similar items together.
Sort your dishes into categories:
Once you have everything separated by category, take a look at everything you own and decide if there is anything that you should get rid of.
A great way to figure this out is to ask yourself a couple of questions like
Figure out the answers for yourself and for items you are willing to let go of, decide whether to donate them or if broken – purge.
Donating can be so rewarding when you know that it’s going to help someone in need but avoid donating broken or chipped items.
While the art of stacking may be pretty obvious for some, I think it’s an important technique to grasp.
Plates come in a variety of shapes and sizes but the same theory applies either way. Place the largest plate at the bottom moving gradually to the smallest plate on the top.
This creates a sturdy stack and allows you to quickly spot the item you need at first glance. The same theory applies to bowls.
For cups and mugs, some people like to keep their cups upside down and some people like to put them right side up.
I tend to buy the same style of mugs in the same color to create a more uniform look. If you have one-off souvenir pieces that you never use, take this opportunity to donate.
Whatever way that you decide is perfectly fine but again, try to line up your mugs from tallest to shortest.
Once you have all of your dishes perfectly stacked it’s time to place them back in the cabinet. Ideally, you’ll place these in an overhead closed cabinet to keep them dust-free.
Place the items that you use most frequently on the lower shelves and towards the
front of the shelf for easy access.
I usually like to store plates and bowls in lower drawers as it’s easier to put them away. Storing plates and bowls in high cabinets is always challenging when you need to stack them after you clean them.
You can also store your bowls next to your plates or have them in a different cabinet if you prefer and space allows you to do so.
Place your cups and your mugs together.
This method of organizing dishware is simple and straightforward. Give this a try – you’ll be surprised by how much better your kitchen looks and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment every time that you open up your cabinet.
