On April 26th for ‘Get Organized’ day, I had the pleasure to host a talk for Citibank China employees.
My presentation was on the importance of a tidy home and how getting organized enhances productivity and is closely linked with happiness and inner balance.
At the end of the talk, I invited the attendees to join my 14 Day – ‘Get Organized’ Challenge.
In this article, I want to share details of the challenge in hopes that it will inspire you to take action too.
How to Survive Working From Home (WFH)
So many people are working from home these days and I was curious to find out how satisfied they were with their current set-up.
I surveyed the workshop attendees and out of 200 people, 37% were satisfied with their setup, 43% were working in organized chaos and 21% admitted to needing a professional organizer to help.
This led to the question of how we can use a well-organized home as a tool to boost productivity.
The answers are quite easy to convince you to start organizing today.
A tidy home will always maximize productivity because it removes distractions.
Organizing the home can shake you out of tired and inefficient routines and into a fresh and more efficient mind frame.
A clean home will help you get inspired to stay on track with your goals and your vision for your life.
A clutter-free workspace is a stress-free workspace that allows you to work in comfort.
An organized home allows you to enjoy your space after the workday is done and helps maintain your work-life balance.
My Best Advice for a Productive Work From Home Set-up
While it’s not necessary to have an enclosed home office, I do suggest creating a dedicated work environment that feels comfortable and productive, where you can do your best work as efficiently as possible.
Organize your drawers using dividers & velcro straps for your various wires.
Maintain a clutter-free work surface by finding a “home” for all your supplies.
When organizing your things, always organize by category.
Whether you are using drawers, shelves, cupboards, boxes or magazine holders, always label your stuff. Labeling creates a system and it’s a great way to ensure maintenance.
If your screen is too low, elevate it. Your back will thank you.
Brighten up the space with a plant. It will boost your mood and productivity and give you a sense of warmth.
The Holistic Approach to Home Organization
Organizing your home is not a project, it’s a way of life – a practice.
Now that we agree on why you need a clean workspace and have gone over the steps to achieve that, it’s time to move beyond the workstation.
This challenge was designed to help people get their homes organized, and regain control of their environment. Each day participants are encouraged to manage an organization task for no longer than one hour.
The purpose was to focus on small wins that would become routine, and build momentum to the big win: a clutter-free home – Yay! Each day, I shared videos and tips on how to best tackle the task at hand.
Here are some popular videos I shared:
Organize Shoes
Organize Documents
Decant Dry Goods
Organize Under the Sink
This challenge was a lot of fun to host and even I was inspired by the energy and motivation of the group.
