The Lunar New Year, also called the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in China. It marks the beginning of a new year, with celebrations lasting for sixteen days.
You may already know everything you need to do to prepare yourself before the new year but have you ever wondered how to get your home ready? Here are some tips that can help you organize your home for this very special occasion.
Because Chinese New Year celebrations are accompanied by the arrival of spring, a spring cleaning session is in order.
The year of the Tiger begins on February 1st so the best time to get your home organized is now!
To prepare your house, clean everything inside the home and its surroundings thoroughly, including the blind spots we tend to overlook during regular maintenance.
Such blindspots include
Make sure your floors are spotless, all your shelves and lighting fixtures dusted and spend a little extra time cleaning your windows & curtains.
If you do not have a lot of time, consider hiring professionals to help you with these tasks.
You will enjoy positive changes in your more spacious and pleasant rooms and create a beautiful atmosphere for the Lunar New Year celebration.
Clearing all the clutter allows positive energy to come into your home and flow freely through your rooms. Before the new year, declutter things you no longer need, are broken or just plain old.
If you’re a regular at decluttering, this exercise shouldn’t take too long.
If you can, consider donating all viable items such as clothes in good condition, kids toys, books & working electronics to your local charity.
Free of this extra clutter, your home can welcome fresh and renewed energy which will bring you good health, great happiness and a successful new year.
Airing out your rooms helps get rid of trapped energy that accumulated during the winter months.
After airing out all the rooms of the house, I like to diffuse my favorite essential oil blends to set a fresh and positive mood throughout the house.
To further instill the mindset of renewal, it’s a tradition to buy new clothes during this period. After decluttering your closet, treat yourself to a little shopping trip!
New clothes symbolize a clean slate and starting over fresh so if you can afford to do so, consider shopping for a few new pieces to add to your wardrobe.
A traditional sweet treat we enjoy this time of year is a Tray of Togetherness (pictured below). This box (or dip tray) full of sweets is usually filled with
But you & your family can put your own twist on it! Filling it up (as well as emptying it) is a favorite activity for children of all ages.
Your home is now all set to welcome the Chinese New Year! Celebrate this auspicious occasion with your family and friends and be prepared for a successful new year.
And if you simply don’t have the time to tackle all these jobs before the new year, fret not! We can tackle it together after the festivities. Just contact me, I will be more than happy to help you with all your cleaning chores!
Happy new year everyone!
