As a wife, mom and organizer, my goal is to empower homeowners to find balance in their homes and minds through organization.
This 14-day challenge is designed to help you make small changes each day and get into the habit of organizing.

Sustainability is a concept very close to my heart and as a professional organizer, I always encourage my clients to think about their shopping habits. Sustainable shopping is about purchasing products that are made from sustainable materials, don’t produce toxic waste, and last as long as possible.
It’s impossible to reduce all waste in the home but we can always find sustainable alternatives for all products we use on a daily basis.
For this reason, I have compiled a list of my favorite eco-conscious goods that I use when organizing my home and helping my clients with their homes as well.
I love to use fabric containers because I can add labels and make them that much more practical for any home. Woven baskets are also a great alternative and for bigger things – such as toy storage, decorations, store away items- if the client already has these ready to go, I even use plastic.
Note: While we can all agree that we must reduce our plastic, sustainability isn’t about throwing away what you already have in order to purchase new items. I encourage you to use the containers that you have for now, and think of a conscious alternative next time you shop for these items.
From my experience the kitchen is a place where you can’t do without plastic entirely so it’s important to know what options you have when it comes to containers that are 100% food-safe.
SISTEMA TUPPERWARE
In my home we use Sitema’s BPA free products that do not leach when microwaved. I love Sistema and their company because of their focus on sustainability and yearly goals to reach a zero net carbon footprint. You can learn more about their products on their website.
STASHER SILICONE POUCHES
Not everything fits in Tupperware and for those items that don’t, I highly recommend Stasher – the endlessly reusable, resealable silicone storage bag that replaces single-use plastic. These food safe silicone bags are eco-friendly, non-toxic and you can even cook in them!
GLASS CONTAINERS
To store my dry goods, I really love using clear jars as they’re eco-friendly, long-lasting and they make cooking and shopping for new items a breeze.
I always label each of my jars and visit my pantry before any grocery shopping trip. This means that I never waste food by buying what I already have at home.
Pikoc Detergent
Did you know that regular laundry detergents are bad for the environment? Beyond the obvious plastic containers, detergents don’t completely biodegrade and they contaminate our water supplies, rivers and oceans with toxic heavy metals.
Thankfully, there are companies out there that are investing time and resources in reducing these problems, and the one I use is Pikoc. Their products are made in France and do not contain phthalates, preservatives, anti-oxidants, dyes, or enzymes.
My favorite is their Oranger en Fleur if you’re looking for a safe, high-end fragrance to add to your laundry.
Wool laundry balls
I always recommend wool balls because they are gentle on skin and clothes, they don’t leave any marks, and it’s a great alternative for those who suffer from allergies caused by harsh chemicals.
Beyond that, wool laundry balls reduce drying time and use less energy.
These are just 3 ways in which you can make your home environmentally responsible. I encourage you to research more about sustainable shopping and find alternatives to the products you are using in your home.
As I was writing this blog, I thought about eco-friendly cleaning products you can DIY with essential oils – so please let me know in the comments if you’d benefit from such a list!
