To all the moms and dads out there… How do we even keep up? 😅
Throughout my experience of working with many families with children, I noticed that it is not only the child that we have to keep up with, it’s also THEIR STUFF. From finding, buying, transporting and discarding, dealing with your child’s possessions can be someone’s part time job.
Considering how fast things can accumulate, I’m here to give you a golden tip on growing with your child that will save you time, money and peace of mind.
Any parent knows that kids grow fast, really fast, and that keeping up with them is often challenging, inconvenient & time consuming. Before you know it, they’ll outgrow the furniture you feel you just bought.
In order to keep up with their needs I suggest buying adult size furniture when possible. Find something that is chic, comfortable and multifunctional so that your child can grow with it.
Beyond the obvious benefit of saving you time and money, buying your growing child adult furniture can also serve as the perfect opportunity to teach them a lesson about responsibility and taking care of our material possessions so that they can serve us longer.
When choosing furniture, it’s important to involve your children! After-all this is their own sacred space so they should have a say in it. That being said, you can guide your child when making their selection.
I believe that teaching our children the responsibility of choosing and caring for their stuff is part of mindful parenting. Because of my career, I am extremely aware of the impact our consuming habits make on the planet and ourselves and I want to pass these teachings to my son so that he can strive to be better.
This is why when it comes to his own space, his room, I teach my son how to be aware of his possessions. We also periodically declutter together so he can learn to let go of what no longer serves him and create more space for what matters.
Buying an adult size bed was one of the best decisions I made for our son’s room. We installed railings to keep him from falling off when he was little, that are easily removable once the child no longer needs them.
Both me and my son love the ergonomic design of his Moll desk. With this desk, you can adjust the height, the tilt and add or remove many other accessories so suit whatever project your child is working on.
Our favorite feature? It can easily be customized to fit his growing needs – from preschool through high school.
The design of this modern high chair is extremely ingenious and will accommodate your child from when they first learn how to sit until well into their adult years. And with a maximum weight load of 300 pounds, I still use my son’s Trip Trapp Chair as a chair to sit in.
If your child is already using utensils, I recommend switching them to adult silverware and tossing the bright colored, plastic, baby cutlery. Your child most likely wants to be like everyone else around him anyway so make them feel included by making the switch to real cutlery as early as possible.
Not only will your child learn to properly eat with real cutlery early, adult silverware is also environmentally sustainable unlike their plastic counterparts.
I can honestly say that investing in high quality furniture from the get go has saved me a lot of headache and time. My son loves his furniture and remembers having since he was little, and it’s also so much fun to see him grow alongside his items.
