I’ve shared glimpses of almost every corner at House of Tan, but today, I am excited to take you through a truly special space: the Heritage Room.
This cozy, inviting room evokes the timeless elegance of a cigar and whisky lounge, wrapped in a comforting embrace.
From the moment you step in, the Heritage Room envelops you in an atmosphere rich with stories and timeless elegance.
It’s more than just a room; it’s a sanctuary where every detail has been carefully curated to transport you to a different era.
Join me as I walk you through my favorite elements of this private hideaway at House of Tan, and discover the unique charm that makes the Heritage Room an unforgettable retreat.
When I envisioned the Heritage Room, I wanted rich, dark tones to create an inviting and cozy space. The deep navy walls set a dramatic backdrop, tying into the common thread throughout House of Tan and symbolizing the deep blue sea, a tribute to Luen Thai’s roots in the shipping industry.
I decided to include a built-in shelving unit that serves as a bar area. Painting the shelves a striking red adds a bold contrast to the navy walls, making the bar a standout feature. This choice brings a lively and stylish element to the room, something I felt was essential to its character.
The brown leather chairs were chosen for their warmth and comfort, encouraging you to sink in and relax. The warm lighting enhances this cozy atmosphere, casting a welcoming glow that makes the room feel intimate and inviting. These elements together create a space that feels both timeless and contemporary, just as I hoped it would.
The architectural details of the Heritage Room make it truly special. One of the first things you’ll notice is the room’s curved wall and its asymmetrical layout, which adds to the cozy and inviting feel of the space. This unique design choice makes the room feel more intimate and interesting.
I wanted to incorporate a modern fireplace set into a curved alcove, enhancing the room’s warmth and comfort. The dark finish of the fireplace complements the overall color scheme, blending seamlessly with the deep navy walls and red shelving. It’s a perfect spot to gather around, especially on cooler evenings.
The flooring, like in many other spaces in House of Tan, features engineered hardwood set in a herringbone pattern. This classic design element adds a touch of elegance and continuity throughout the home.
For the ceiling, I chose cove lighting to highlight the room’s unique shape, turning it into a feature rather than a challenge. What really works well here—and I have to credit the designers for this brilliant idea—is the crown molding placed above the wall paneling, right below the cove lighting. This clever detail makes the ceiling feel as though it’s floating, adding an unexpected and captivating element to the room’s design.
The main decor element in the Heritage Room is the gallery wall, which holds a special place in my heart. I opted for black and white photos to elegantly convey the past. Each photo is framed meticulously, creating a cohesive and refined look that complements the room’s overall aesthetic.
What makes this gallery wall truly unique are the bilingual captions in English and Chinese. These captions add a layer of depth and accessibility, allowing more people to connect with the history depicted in the photos. The images themselves date back to when our founders were in their early years, providing a nostalgic glimpse into their lives and the roots of our family legacy.
This gallery wall is more than just a decorative element; it’s a storytelling piece that honors our heritage and keeps the memories alive in a sophisticated and meaningful way.
We’ve explored almost every room at House of Tan, each space offering its own unique charm and story. Today, we explore the Heritage Room, but our journey doesn’t stop here. Next week, we’ll step into the theatre, a space that promises to be just as captivating.
House of Tan is more than just a place; it’s the second home of the Tan family. Our clubhouse offers various food and beverage areas, all designed to provide a rich culinary experience. Please remember that bookings must be made in advance to enjoy these services.
The public areas, including a sports bar and terrace, are perfect for indoor and outdoor group events, banquets, or meetings.
