Every Valentine’s Day brings back a rush of memories for me, especially since it coincides with the anniversary of my big move to Shanghai on February 14, 2016.
That move wasn’t just a change of address; it was a leap into a new life that taught me the value of experiences over things.
So, when it comes to celebrating love, I’m all for gifts that carve out memories rather than just take up space on a shelf.
To celebrate this year’s day of love, I want to share with you eight Valentine’s Day gift ideas that are more about the experience and connection than the price tag.
If you know me in real life, you already know that I have a soft spot for custom gifts! There’s just something so special about finding the right object and tailoring it for a loved one, be it through a monogram, a picture, or something even more unique.
Some may think this can be basic but you can always add a twist. Sure, custom prints or art pieces are great, but why try something new? Here are 8 of my favorite ideas I’ve seen floating around
Forget the usual dinner and movie. Plan something beyond the ordinary, an experience that’s as unique and special as your relationship. Consider these lavish ideas to make your Valentine’s date night unforgettable:
An unexpected getaway can be another thrilling way to break the monotony of daily life and inject a dose of adventure into your relationship. The essence of this surprise isn’t about how far you go but the joy of discovering new experiences together.
Even as I’m writing this, I can clearly see the delight in my partner’s eyes every time I reveal plans for an impromptu escape, whether it’s to a charming bed and breakfast in the countryside, a luxury resort by the sea, or a boutique hotel in a city we’ve both been curious about exploring.
Instead of tangible gifts, how about vouchers for experiences you can share?
It could be anything from a cooking class to a skydiving session. The idea is to step out of your comfort zones together and collect moments, not things.
Mixing your own massage oil or perfume can be a surprisingly intimate and fun activity.
It’s a chance to explore what scents you associate with each other or your relationship. Plus, it’s a gift that keeps on giving.
Creating a custom floral arrangement together (or as a gift for one another) offers a blend of personal touch and beauty. This is an experience that allows you both to get playful and creative, selecting each bloom and foliage to craft a bouquet that’s unique and meaningful.
You can even attend a flower arrangement workshop together to learn a new skill and experience an intimate activity together.
In the age of digital everything, handwritten love letters have a charm and sincerity that can’t be matched.
Collecting your thoughts, memories, and hopes for the future in a beautifully bound book is a powerful way to celebrate your relationship.
Music offers a beautiful way to capture and celebrate the moments that define your relationship.
Creating a playlist filled with songs that hold special meaning to both of you can become the soundtrack of your journey together.
Whether it’s the track that was playing during an important milestone or tunes that simply remind you of each other, a playlist can bring together the melody of your shared experiences.
For music lovers, this is a personal and intimate gift, perfect for Valentine’s Day, that lets you relive those cherished memories anytime you press play. It can even be paired with something else on this list.
This Valentine’s Day, the focus is on crafting memories that last beyond a single day.
In a world where we’re often chasing the next big thing, there’s something profoundly beautiful about celebrating love with gifts that speak to the heart.
(Plus, it doesn’t create any more clutter 🙂
I’m curious to hear your thoughts and experiences. Have you ever given or received a Valentine’s gift that was truly memorable?
