Many of my clients are on-the-go families always on the lookout for affordable and accessible storage ideas for kids. Although some parents have been more successful than others, it’s often difficult finding solutions that don’t cost a fortune or take up too much space.

And because I’m a huge fan of upcycling & finding solutions for every budget, in this week’s post I want to talk about creative solutions for storing your kids stuff without breaking the bank.

01. Give Old Pieces of Furniture a New Purpose

Don’t throw out that old cabinet or dresser just yet. Try using them to store the kids toys, art supplies, or even books. If the look of your piece doesn’t match the decor, don’t be afraid to give it a makeover.

I recently turned an under-the-desk storage cabinet into toy storage! Here’s how it turned out.

02. Use the Space Under the Bed

Under bed storage bins are an ideal organization solution for any child’s room. Not only do they provide lots of otherwise unused space, but they will also keep the room looking neat and tidy. Use this space to store extra toys, seasonal clothing or even sleepover essentials.

03. Cubbies Make Great Accent Pieces

My clients love individual storage cubbies because it makes separating toys, books, and stuffed animals super easy. These units can be arranged in a variety of ways and I know you’ll get a lot of use out of this minimally designed piece. To elevate the look and avoid clutter, I always recommend adding labels to the cubbies.

04. Wall Shelves for Books and Artwork

Wall shelves are inexpensive and a great way to save space. They’re perfect for displaying books, art and some figurines. I like to use them to enhance plain wall spaces and add storage where needed.

05. Use Laundry Baskets to Store Toys

Laundry baskets do an excellent job as toy storage. They can be used in a variety of settings, from the playroom to the living room. I prefer using them as a catch all for toys in different areas of the house and I recommend my clients experiment with several sizes for this purpose.

Best of all? Kids love them because it makes clean-up so much easier!

As you can see, once we think outside the box, there are many things we can do to improve our children’s room organization. You probably already have a couple of the solutions I mentioned above lying around in your home, waiting for a new purpose.
