As I eagerly awaited the arrival of my son during a sunny winter, I found that preparing for a new baby is more than adorable onesies and stuffed animals. What truly matters is setting up a nurturing environment that can seamlessly accommodate the baby and make those sleep-deprived midnight feedings a little easier.
Since setting up my own nursery all those years ago, I’ve also helped many friends and clients go through this beautiful life transition as well, and doing so in an organized way.
So let me share my seasoned advice on preparing your home for the bundle of joy set to arrive for you soon.
I will guide you through some practical tips and essential items to help you create a functional and beautiful nursery while still keeping your home organized.
When setting up your nursery, it’s important to choose furniture that can adapt to your baby’s changing needs as they grow.
Look for versatile pieces that can be repurposed over time, saving you both space and money. You can choose a crib that can convert into a toddler bed, create a changing station on top of the dresser, and look for furniture that can convert like the IKEA KALLAX Series.
For our son’s room, I bought a double bed right away and purchased additional railings to keep him safe at night. He now still has his bed at 7 years old.
Another item I recommend is the Stokke Trip Trapp Chair. This is the only chair you will need for your child as it will accommodate your child their needs from when they first learn how to sit until well into their adult years.
Remember, not every baby item is essential, so be selective and mindful of your choices.
A must-have I can’t recommend enough for any nursery is a cozy rocking chair. It’s perfect for those quiet bonding moments with your little one.

Setting up a baby shower registry is a wonderful opportunity to ask for items that will be useful not only in the newborn stage but also as your baby grows.
Consider requesting larger sizes of clothing, as babies tend to outgrow their clothes faster than you can imagine.
Stock up on diapers in sizes up to 2T, wipes, and a white noise machine to help soothe your baby.
Swaddles, a bouncer or (bouncing chair of any kind), and a baby carrier are also invaluable additions to your registry.
And if you’re shopping for someone else, consider gifting a home organizer service to help deep clean and organize the house before the baby arrives.
Essential Baby Baby Shower Registry:
Keeping your home organized with a baby can feel like a challenge, but with the right tools, it becomes much easier.
Caddies are fantastic for storing baby essentials and can be easily moved from room to room.
These extendable drawer separators are particularly useful for organizing a diaper drawer, making it easy to find everything you need during diaper changes.
And I love using this fabric organizer set for baby clothes.
Clear drawer organizers help keep liquids and small essentials neatly arranged, while over-the-door organizers maximize vertical space for storing toys or accessories.
It’s important to remember that each mother’s experience is unique, and finding the right balance between organization and flexibility is key.
