This summer while my son was in summer camp, I had some time to explore a few new places – this time four days in Nashville, then a few more in Nantucket.
Both trips were relaxed, full of good food, and filled with the kind of moments that make summer feel special.

First Stop: Nashville
We spent four days in Nashville, and it was exactly the kind of energy I needed. We stayed at the Thompson Hotel in The Gulch, which was in such a good location! Walking distance to restaurants, shops, and all the murals I wanted to take photos with (yes, I made everyone stop).
Where We Went
Country Music Hall of Fame: I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being one of the coolest spots – Taylor Swift even has her very own education center here. great exhibits and so much music history.
Bluebird Café: Definitely a highlight. It’s small and intimate, and we saw Striking Matches play with a few surprise guests. Such a fun night.
Shopping in 12 South: We hit Draper James (Reese Witherspoon’s own boutique), zStoney Clover for custom bags, Hart – for custom necklace charms
Don’t forget to stop by Lalaland for a cool drink (fyi long wait but worth checking out the buzz)
The Gulch area – Rustler Hat Co., where you can customize your own hat. Such a fun little detail and a great souvenir.
Unclaimed Baggage: This was wild. It’s where all the lost airline luggage ends up. My son scored Jordans for $50 and we had the best time digging through everything.

Where We Ate
5 Daughter’s Bakery: Classic cronuts so worth the wait.
Hattie B’s: A must-try if you’re into hot chicken.
Husk: Dinner here was a standout. Southern food, done right.
Audrey’s: upscale dining experience, popular spot for those looking to enjoy a taste of Nashville’s culinary scene
Rainbow Skull: located in the famous Printer’s Alley – hosts events and live music, making it a popular destination for those seeking a fun dining experience – (must order their prime rib)

Next Up: Nantucket
After dropping my son at a camp in Boston, I took the ferry to Nantucket with some friends. We stayed at Blue Iris, right in town, quiet, walkable, and super convenient.
I saved a few spots ahead of time for dinner, shops, beaches, which made everything smoother once we arrived. Even small things like ferry times and store hours helped us keep the trip relaxed and easy.
What We Did
Galley Beach: Still my favorite beach.
Shopping: We hit Charleston Shoe Company (one of the most comfortable sandals ever that comes in many colors). I like to get a new pair each year so I always come back. , Wheat, Centre Point Home (Special Appearance with Gray Malin – an amazing travel photographer who also loves dogs just like me), and a few others, easy, coastal style, nothing overdone.
Cisco Brewers: Beer, Wine and Vodka Distillery all in one place, food trucks with live oysters, live music, picnic tables—it felt like a mini outdoor festival.
What We Ate
Millie’s: Easy lunch spot by the beach. The fish tacos were perfect.
The Proprietors Bar: Fun, lively, and great food.
Cru: great seafood by the water, fresh oysters clam chowder – lobster rolls
Galley Beach: fav dinner spot for sunset and ocean views right on the sand (must book early)
Straight Wharf: Warm night, outdoor table, no misses on the menu.
Tips for Your Own Trip
Book Bluebird Café early – shows are small and go fast.
Reserve Nantucket ferry ahead, especially with a group.
Pack light – I rotated the same pieces in both cities.
Buy extra water at local Stop & Shop – hotel qtys are limited in the rooms
Leave room to wander – some of our favorite moments weren’t planned.
Next up for me is Spain! We’re heading there for a cruise that stops in France and Italy, and I’m already thinking about what to pack.
But for now, I’m still holding onto this last trip.
Nashville gave us music and movement, Nantucket gave us space to slow down, and both reminded me how much I love traveling with people who feel like home.
We’re already talking about where to go next summer 🤭.
