Recently, I sat down with my assistant for an interview to talk about my journey as a home organizer, my philosophy on organizing, and how I incorporate mindfulness and self-care practices into my work.
We also discussed some common misconceptions about home organizing and shared some tips for maintaining an organized and stress-free home on a daily basis.
It was a great conversation, and I’m excited to share it with all of you!
Q: What inspired you to become a home organizer?
A: I was always an organized person since I was a child. As I got older, I realized it was a skill that not everyone had. During COVID, friends had asked for help to transform their home. From there, “Bless the Mess” was born.
Q: Tell me a little bit about your background and your organizing philosophy.
A: My grandmother instilled great habits as a child. She taught me how to fold my clothes, make my bed every day, and showed me how keeping a tidy home could help you become a better you in so many ways.
My personal philosophy is that simplifying and organizing are key to a serene home.
The goal is to own less and live in a more streamlined and organized environment.
I believe everyone can transform their lives and more readily achieve their goals when they are organized. Simplicity at home can bring peace, and mindfulness, and encourages us to live in the present rather than the past.
Q: How do you incorporate mindfulness and self-care practices into your organizing work, and why is this important to you?
A: To help start my day with a clear mind, I do yoga, pilates, and workout in the mornings. I also practice daily prayer with thoughts of gratitude to bring in positivity. At the end of the day, I clean my inbox as a form of self-care.
Q: What are some common misconceptions about home organizing?
A: Organizing is a journey, not a destination. You need to build it into your lifestyle to be sustainable. It’s not an overnight project but something that you practice each day in your daily life.
Q: Can you share any tips for maintaining an organized and stress-free home on a daily basis?
A: Approach your day by living in the moment. Go through your checklists and tackle each issue one by one.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is feeling overwhelmed by clutter and chaos in their home, and where should they start?
A: Just start. Clutter is a result of postponed decisions. Start with clothing. And continue reading these popular blog posts for other tips on how to get organized.
