When was the last time you detoxed your home?
Most of us like to take care of our bodies and overall health by exercising, watching what we eat, and staying away from things that don’t make us feel our best.
We take care of our minds by remaining positive and resilient in the face of adversity, and we nurture our souls by doing things we love and being kind to others.
We do all these things to make sure we stay in top shape but there is something almost all of us overlook, the chemicals in our environment.
These often invisible toxins affect us, our families, and our quality of life. But it doesn’t have to be this way, and you can easily detox your home to avoid unwanted and harmful effects.
If you’re looking to detox your home, there are a variety of ways to go about it. From getting rid of harmful products to switching up your cleaning routine, here’s a list of the 7 best home detoxing hacks:
We all know that our homes can be filled with harmful chemicals, but did you know that some of those chemicals can actually cause health problems?
Every day we are exposed to chemicals that harm our health. Even in small doses, these chemicals can accumulate and disrupt our hormone system and cause lasting damage and disease.
Children are especially vulnerable, because their brains and bodies are still developing and because they drink, eat, and breathe more for their weight in comparison to adults, exposing them to greater risks.
Here’s a list of common household items that can put your health at risk:
There are so many great natural cleaners alternatives out there! You’ll be surprised at how many options there are when it comes to cleaning supplies that aren’t full of harsh chemicals and toxins.
I personally like to create my own cleaning solutions using natural ingredients and essential oils. I wrote in-depth about it here and shared a downloadable list of cleaning recipes.
As I mentioned before, air fresheners can contain harmful chemicals that could be dangerous for your health—and they don’t actually do anything but mask scents for a short period of time anyway.
The natural alternative you should opt for instead is essential oils.
I love using doTERRA’s Wild Orange or Lemon to keep my home smelling fresh.
While not all non-stick cookware is deemed harmful anymore, make sure you always check the quality of your non-stick pans before buying and invest only in good quality cookware.
You must also replace your non-stick cookware if you notice that the coating is either cracking up or flaking.
This is because the chemical Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was used to layer non-stick Teflon pans until 2015.
Some alternatives to Teflon non-stick cookware are stainless steel and cast iron.
When you use cosmetics, your skin absorbs chemicals, which can then enter the bloodstream. You can also inhale powders or ingest some cosmetics — by using lip products, for example.
Although many ingredients in makeup are safe, a number of common ingredients can be harmful to both the body and the environment.
This article goes in-depth about the 15 toxins to avoid in beauty products.
Don’t forget to also check the expiration date even on your trusted products as expired makeup can start to harbor bacteria.

Because of the daily use items that contain pollutants, oftentimes the air we breathe inside our homes is much more polluted than the air outside.
Proper ventilation will help to remove large particles and dust from the air and allows fresh air to circulate and detox your home naturally.
This can effectively help to reduce allergens, and condensation and helps protect your family’s respiratory health.
Keep your home free of dust and dirt to avoid exposing yourself to harmful particles.
Not only does dust make your home look unclean, but it’s also bad for your health. Dust mites are allergens that can cause respiratory infections like asthma.
