As we approach the end of the year, what’s on your gratitude list? I love the simple yet extremely powerful habit of gratitude journaling and in this post I’m going to show you what’s on my end of the year gratitude list.
I’ve been keeping a daily gratitude journal for over 10 years now and this practice has truly changed my life. I’ve found that when I regularly take a few minutes to pause and reflect on the things, people, situations and even my own personal characteristics that I’m grateful for, it increases my overall happiness, sense of security and satisfaction in all areas of my life.
This simple habit also drastically reduces overwhelm and stress and it’s been proven to improve sleep, help with weight control and even lower blood pressure!
If you’re new to the concept of journaling or are looking to build a steady habit, I recommend you start simple – with where you are and what you have. Don’t wait until the new year to get in this habit, start now – start with an end of the year gratitude list.
Now it’s the perfect time to start your end of the year gratitude list, and it’s such a mood booster when shopping for presents. I find it sets the tone for the holidays and gets us in the right state of mind.
Here’s a List of 5 Reflections I’ve Saved for My Year End Gratitude List
1. Honor Your Accomplishments
Getting through another year is not without its challenges and we need to honor ourselves for the progress we’ve made. Think of how far you’ve come and all the positive changes you’ve created in your life this year – did you make a new home? advanced in your career? started a business? Take a moment and acknowledge all the things you’ve worked so hard to achieve, and thank yourself for staying strong, focused and determined to succeed.
2. Be Grateful for Your Home
I love my home, it is my sanctuary and a big source of joy and happiness. There’s nothing quite like waking up in the comfort of your own home and knowing that you’re safe and satisfied.
There are plenty of reasons to be grateful for our homes – from views to privacy. In my home I’m grateful for the quiet, natural light, and peacefulness of my surroundings.
3. Take Pride in the New Good Habits You Mastered
Did you pick up a new habit that gives you joy? Perhaps you started waking up early or mastered an organization habit this year.
Whatever it may be, congratulate yourself for taking on new healthy routines and taking steps to improve yourself.
4. Appreciate What Left Your Life
If any people, situations or items have left you this past year, don’t forget to acknowledge them and thank them for the contribution they’ve made in your life.
Not everything stays around forever and it’s important to acknowledge all the good things that have happened in our lives even when we need to keep moving.
5. Celebrate What’s Coming
What’s the best thing in store for you in the upcoming year? Is there something that’s going to happen that you’re excited about?
Think about what’s going to give you a boost of joy and happiness and then write it down with gratitude.
Reflecting on the positive things in our lives will always make us feel better – it doesn’t cost any money, takes little effort, but has a huge impact on how we feel.
Creating a gratitude list does not have to be hard – all we need is the right intention and a little time to reflect. And if you’d like to get in the right mood, give this playlist a try!
