Sometimes it can be difficult to get out and exercise.
Be it restrictions, bad weather or just having too little time to spare, there are many reasons why you may want to invest in some at-home gym equipment.
In general, exercising at home is a great idea; it’s convenient and quiet and can help you get your daily exercise in without any excuses.
However, like anything else you bring into your space, the equipment can easily get disorganized and clutter your environment.
In this article, I cover the best ways to store your exercise equipment at home, so it’s easily accessible when you need it and neatly stored away when you don’t.
Find a Home to Store Your Equipment
A home gym doesn’t necessarily need its own room but if you can, I highly recommend finding a space or area where you can always work out.
This will help you keep your equipment organized and streamline your efforts.
When deciding on a spot for exercise equipment, consider factors such as convenience, ease of use, and the space required for storage.
Evaluate your equipment – if it requires a power connection, place it as close to the wall as possible, and always be mindful to not create a tripping hazard with your wires.
Create an Equipment Cabinet
Having a dedicated cabinet with segmented compartments will keep your equipment neat and inspire you to work out. You can find a small storage space for a set of barbells and dumbbells, or yoga mats.
If your workouts don’t require bulky equipment, a laundry hamper can be sufficient.
Use it to store your loose items such as skipping ropes, yoga mats or blocks, resistance bands, etc.
I just found this beautiful yoga mat tube and I wanted to share it because I think it’s a great, low-key storage solution for those of us that need daily stretching.
It can be placed anywhere without it cluttering your view and it keeps your yoga mat off the floor collecting dust or forgotten in a corner.
Build an Accent Wall to Store Your Exercise Equipment
Vertical storage is always practical for small spaces and depending on the design, can keep your equipment out of children’s reach.
Pegboards are easy to install and extremely versatile in accommodating any type of equipment.
I also recommend a wall-mounted bracket to store your bike without ruining your interior.
Exercise Equipment Built-in Cabinetry
If your space, budget, and level of dedication call you to do so, built-in cabinetry can be another option for storing your equipment.
The advantage of built-ins is that you can design them to suit your specific needs and you can you hide your equipment behind closed doors when you’re done.
They also work extremely well for tucking away larger pieces like compact ellipticals, folding treadmills, bikes, etc.
You’ll find that they create a more zen environment and a great alternative to having all your equipment out in the open.
