This Women’s Day, I wanted to take a pause and really dive into some questions about where I’ve been, what drives me, and the principles I hold dear.
It’s not just a moment of reflection for me, but also an opportunity to connect with you on a deeper level, sharing the insights and experiences that have shaped my journey.
As we celebrate the stories of women from all walks of life, I’m opening up about mine, hoping to inspire and encourage reflection in your own life.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: As a child, my ambitions were as whimsical as they were varied. The tactile joy of pressing typewriter keys led me to dream of being a cashier, a simple pleasure that spoke to my love for order and process.
Later, as I entered the the world of entertainment and media, my aspirations shifted towards becoming a fashion news anchor, a dream that married my love for storytelling with my growing interest in style and trends.
These early dreams, though seemingly contrasting, laid the groundwork for a career built on creativity, communication, and a keen eye for detail.
Q: What other hobbies do you have besides home organization?
A: My passions extend far beyond organizing. Interior design has always captivated me and I love creating beautiful spaces through furniture and homeware collections that tell a story.
Dancing, especially hip hop, and ice skating are also big parts of my life. They’re fun ways for me to express myself and stay active.
Q: What do you do when you’re stressed?
A: Ironically, my profession also serves as my sanctuary. Organizing is my go-to stress reliever.
There’s something inherently calming about sorting through the clutter, both physical and mental, and creating a space that reflects clarity and intention.
It’s a reminder that even in the midst of chaos, we have the power to create our own peace.
Q: In moments of self-doubt or challenges, what motivates you to keep going?
A: My faith is my compass, especially in times of uncertainty. It’s a source of strength and resilience, guiding me through life’s storms with a sense of purpose and hope.
This belief, that there’s something greater guiding my path, has been a constant source of comfort and motivation, encouraging me to move forward even when the way isn’t clear.
Q: How do you prioritize self-care in your busy schedule, and why do you think it’s important?
A: In the hustle of daily life, especially when living in a vibrant city like Shanghai, finding time for self-care is both a challenge and a necessity.
My work’s flexibility is a blessing, allowing me to find moments of care and mindfulness into my day.
Whether it’s a short meditation, a yoga class during lunch or simply sitting down with a good book before bedtime, these acts of self-care are vital.
They recharge my batteries, enabling me to approach my work and personal life with renewed energy and focus.
Q: What role does travel or exposure to different cultures play in your life and work?
A: Travel has been one of my greatest teachers, allowing me to be more open and adaptive to change.
Each culture has its own story, its own way of organizing life and space, and these experiences have deeply influenced my approach to organizing and life itself.
They remind me of the common threads that bind us, despite our differences, and the value of looking at challenges from multiple perspectives.
Q: What’s your favorite way to spend a day off to recharge and rejuvenate?
A: There’s nothing quite like the thrill of travel to rejuvenate my spirit.
Whether it’s a quick getaway or a long-haul adventure, travel inspires me, fills me with wonder, and offers a fresh lens through which to view the world.
It’s these moments of discovery and relaxation that fuel my creativity and passion, both in my work and personal life.
Q: Reflecting on your career and personal journey, what are you most proud of achieving?
A: While my career has been a source of fulfillment and growth, becoming a mother has been my most profound journey.
It has revealed strengths I never knew I had, deepened my capacity for love and patience, and brought an unparalleled sense of joy into my life.
This journey has also reinforced my passion for bringing order and harmony into homes, including my own, making everyday life a little easier and more beautiful for those I care for.
As we reflect on these questions and stories, I hope they inspire you to look within and around, to share your own journey and listen to those of the women in your life.
Our stories are powerful—they teach, heal, and connect us.
This Women’s Day, let’s celebrate the diverse, resilient, and inspiring paths we’ve each walked. Let’s share, support, and uplift one another, today and every day.
