I am a proud mama of 3 fur-babies that I adore, and many of my clients have pets of their own. Because our pets tend to be very spoiled and have clothes, numerous toys and beds, it can sometimes be hard to figure out where to store items & how to best care for their wellbeing.
In this article I want to share some helpful tidbits about pet care that I have gathered over the years and have shared with my clients. If you are an animal lover like myself, then these tips are meant for you.
Designate Spaces for Their Stuff
I don’t know about you but I love dressing up my pups! They love the attention and for them, it is not about what they are wearing but rather, the time I take to spoil them.
Each one of my pets has their own dedicated box with clothes to fit. I store these boxes in our main closet and my dogs get so excited every time I bring their boxes out.
I also have a designated basket for their toys, another for their beds and a food and water bowl area.
Elevate Their Food & Water
I tend to avoid food & water bowls placed directly on the ground because I learned that it’s not the best way for them to eat. Because I love them, I want to feed them in the easiest, safest, and most convenient way possible.
I find that elevated food bowls are the best way for my three dogs to eat. It brings the food and water closer to their mouths, which means less strain on their necks and it makes the whole process a lot less messy for everyone involved.
I particularly recommend this tip for older pets with limited mobility but of course, any pup can try it.
Teach Them Good Manners
I always tell my clients that training is like therapy for your pooch. Training is important not only to make your pups better behaved but also to teach them good manners, control and social skills. It truly makes a difference in their behavior and overall health.
I even taught my dogs to put their toys away! As crazy as it may sound, my oldest two know that when playtime is over, they need to clean up. It’s important to teach your pets in a positive and loving way. Be patient and consistent and in no time you will see the results in their behavior and in your home.
BE AWARE OF THEIR ALLERGIES
I can’t stress enough how important it is to keep your pets on a healthy diet. With the busy lives we lead, it’s so easy to give them treats, table scraps or even let them beg for food from the table. However that’s not healthy and many pets have allergies you may not even be aware of before it’s too late.
For my own pups, they each have their special treats which I store in clear glass jars and have labeled with their names. This way, it’s easy for anyone in my household to spoil them with a treat when we want to. We make sure to stick to their special diets and avoid all allergens, which helps keep them healthy and happy.
Bonus Tip – Store Away Small Toys
Some dogs will just eat everything! We store all of Nick’s Nerf bullets in these OXO canisters so that Gobi, Tika and Kuma don’t eat them
Finally, Give Them Love and Lots of It!
It’s never too early to start spoiling your pets with love. I remember my mom spoiling me growing up and I guess that’s why I do it to my dogs now. They truly deserve it!
As an animal lover, you know that your pets are more than just animals, but family members. It’s important to give them the love they deserve and create an organized environment for them in the process.
